I have spent a lot of time in Coffee Republic but now i sit down to write about it, I find myself filled with negative thoughts and wondering why so many hours have been frittered away here. Maybe it was the lure of free WiFi before I realised that many places in Krakow offer this, or maybe the added bonus that you can plug your laptop in and, in theory at least, sit here all day surfing to your heart’s content. As a non-smoker, having the option of the non-smoking area is also appealing.

The drinks are up to scratch and the food is great for the prices they charge, the pasta dishes especially so why oh why do I find myself now struggling to hold back my criticism? Could it be jealous nostalgia for my university days when i see the place full of teenage students? Is it the uncomfortable chairs? Is it the fact that often the staff almost completely ignore you unless you’re one of their mates? Or is it because the presentation of the place is a little too professional, as if you’re in a branch of a huge multinational franchise (though if this is the case I’m ignorant of it).

To wrap up, it’s a place that divides opinion, my own included so you’ll have to stop by and make up your own mind. Or, just go to Prowincja or Botanika instead- you’re spoiled for choice on Bracka.
