About Cafe Magia

It was a cold winters evening in Krakow and I wanted somewhere cosy to rest my feet. I was taken to just the right place, Café Magia, tucked into one of the old buildings that line the perimeter of the market square. It is as central as they come, but still boasts ample individuality and a certain degree of snugness.

The product of four small adjoining spaces: you enter into an area protected from the elements by clear plastic – an outdoor space indoors – one door leads out to a little courtyard; another door leads inside; and the fourth room, with the bar is the final space you discover.

The resident cat wanders in and out, stops, licks its paws and looks at you with disdain.

The original doorways, vaulted ceilings, and windows hint to the history of the building you are in; if your Polish is up to it you can read more about it in the menu.

There is nothing unique about the fare on offer, the usual selection of hot, cold, and alcoholic drinks, and snacks. Prices are however very reasonable for somewhere just a snowball throw from St. Mary’s church: coffee and tea start at 5.50 zł and beers are upward of 7 zł.

I sit back in the corner that I intend to call my own for the next hour, a few people come and go, but it’s all very peaceful, it’s not big enough to be anything but. Definitely a nice little hideout to frequent as much as possible.
