Valli Baar
About Valli Baar
One of a kind, in Tallinn at least, Valli Baar is a genuine throwback to times now gone having allegedly not changed significantly since opening 40 years ago. The city council certainly seem convinced by this story as they have recently made Valli Baar a protected site so it won't go the way of all the other survivors from that era in being refurbished and modernised.
The place itself couldn't be simpler (though actually getting served definitely could be), a rectangular room with a rectangular bar in the middle, an entrance in one corner, toilets in another and usually and accordion player in a third. Choose your drink, wait an eternity to get it and then enjoy!
Once you have finally managed to get the barman's attention you must sample the famous millimalikas- jellyfish in Estonian- at least once before moving on to somewhere a bit hipper and possibly roomier, though I wouldn't necessarily recommend Club Hollywood across the road for all occasions. Some say tequila, sambuca and tabasco don't go together but Valli Baar believes otherwise
