About Bar Chocolate

I have never been sure of the chocolate connection, and I am going to be quite brave and suggest there isn’t one. Having said that, the colours of the walls do seem to look a lot like a sticky chocolate cake.

A small bar arcs around a corner at the back of the snug room; a crow's-nest overlooking the chattering creatives that lounge about amongst the wooden and leather seating. By day they sit sipping coffees and juices and munching on the healthy food on offer. Some will be sat quietly reading a book, whilst others may have the laptop ready to do a bit of work. The menu is extensive and caters for both small and large appetites. Choose from the breakfast options, light dishes, main meals, dishes to share, and desserts. Main meals start from £7.50. It is also a great place to come for good coffee; they use beans from the locally based Monmouth company, which is regarded very highly. By night a similar clientele, still beautiful, young, and trendy, swap their lattes for wine and cocktails: cocktails are priced at £8.

There is nothing pretentious about this bar, unlike many of its peers you do not get the sense of a constructed environment, the vibe here is genuinely cool, and this attracts a laidback and interesting crowd. Although it does often feel quite serious, especially during the day, which is why I think I prefer it by night – its origins are as a bar after all.

So whatever mood you’re in Bar Chocolate can probably help you out.
