For all its charms and culture, Krakow is lacking one very fundamental thing as a city: a diverse dining scene. Sure, there are some exceptions, but when you get down to it, most of the time going out to a "nice" restaurant involves a menu of either Polish or Italian or such a comprehensive combination of both that the menu makes War and Peace look like a slim volume.

Luckily, Aperitif has come along to add a bit of variety to the city's underachieving dining scene. And here, the difference truly is in the details; or rather, just how much attention to detail the restaurant pays.

The first difference is in the service: the waiters and waitresses smile and don't gripe; they hover out of sight until right when you need them; and they actually know the menu and will make helpful suggestions.

As for the food, the seasonal and ever-changing menu makes this a place worth coming back to regularly just to see what's new. The small a la carte menu means everything on it is fresh, and they do occasionally run out of some dishes. On order is a large choice of starters ranging from soups or salads to meat plates, a well-selected range of seafood and meat dishes, and a few varying pasta dishes. The wine menu is definitely underpriced and worth sampling - and the smiling wait staff will be happy to help you find the perfect wine to compliment your order.
