About Trelkovsky Cafe

Sketchily lit with a predominance of candles the darkness that flows around is both murky and mysterious. As you walk between rooms one may expect to find a crazy scientist conducting frankensteinesque experiments, but instead you find furniture and décor that wouldn’t be out of place in a cobweb infested stately home; an assortment of solid wooden tables fill the dark space whilst large paintings and magnificently framed mirrors hang on the wall over decorative wallpaper. In one room a piano cowers in the corner but not to be played, rather as an extra area for perching. Soft French music penetrates the gloom.

Trelkovsky is relatively speaking off the beaten track, it is about a 20 minute walk from the market square, which may have some influence on this bar never seeming to get overly busy. Those that do come are young, often from the local academic institutions or the residential areas.

The choice of drink is adequate: wines, beer, spirits, and hot drinks. Wine gets served in wonderfully gothic glasses, which are very at home in this location. Beer on tap is Żywiec and the less common (and dangerously strong) Żywiec porter: 6 and 7.5 zł respectively for a 0.5l glass.

Many bars try to be cool but it is a state that cannot be manufactured; Trelkovsky has it naturally and in abundance. A great place to hangout.
