About Filmowa Cafe

Occupying a mezzanine of the popular Kijow cinema the Filmowa café’s serenity is exaggerated by the endless stream of traffic plodding along in full view just outside.

The café has been elegantly designed with an unsurprising yet subtle cinematic flavour. Two large projectors from a bygone day are delicately placed near the bar, which has director-style stools encircling it. Two rows of tables stretch down from the bar following the line of the building’s glass frontage. Film lighting and canvas are suspended above, unfortunately making the space feel a little less open.

During the day local students congregate around the tables discussing their work, or just relaxing, and sipping coffee and tea. By night filmgoers make use of the more extensive range of beverages including cocktails named after movies, such as the intriguingly titled Fargo and Trzy Colory (Three Colours). Coffee starts from 5zł, the cost of beer ranges between 5 and 8zł: very reasonable indeed.

Pop tunes are pumped out from speakers at the far end where a large screen is also housed. As dusk falls multicoloured lights turn on bringing to life the inner wall, which is a fascinating piece of art in itself.

A little distance from the main focus of Krakow it probably isn’t worth the venture out here, but if you are in the vicinity it is certainly an option and does have a cool vibe. And if you are coming to take in a movie than give yourself time either before or after to visit Filmowa.
