It took a merciful Pole to enlighten me to the fact that Kakadu is in fact the Polish word for cockatoo - the parrot-like bird with the raging mohawk. Intrigued, I grabbed some friends and headed down to Wielopole to give this brand new club a try. Opening the door, we were greeted with a tragically empty but really quite beautifully decorated room. While thankfully not an actual aviary, the interior is elegant and exotic (like a cockatoo some might observe) with a modern mishmash of cabana chic and Asian influences throughout the three large rooms. Simply by being at ground level, Kakadu already has a much airier and fresher feel than most Krakow bars and the laid-back house music adds to the relaxed atmosphere. You'd just have to add a few pieces of local art or photography and you'd have a more sophisticated Pauza. So while the club was literally empty and the staff obviously taken back by the number of customers we had just brought through the door, I would consider it very excusable. Kakadu must have opened just a little while ago as there was still a faint smell of paint, and we did after all visit it on a Tuesday. Another plus was the impressive looking menu contributing to the bizarre trend in Krakow of bars serving much higher quality food than actual restaurants. Just look at Nic Nowego or Le Scandale. Sitting back and enjoying my Carlsberg (7 zloty and the only beer on tap), I couldn't help but feel a strong sense of potential here.
