About Cafe Baszta

Located in the tiny town of Ostrzeszów, near Kalisz and generally in the middle of nowhere, Poland, Kawiarnia Pod Basztą (or Cafe Baszta or "the cafe under the tower"), is one of the most adorable cafes on this side of the Oder. While it's primarily known as a place to catch great Polish singer-songwriter and other calmer musical acts, lately it's begun to host more rocking events with the excellent annual Feel on Festival.

The consists of two arching rooms that might as well have been transported from your grandmother's house - if your grandmother lived in a bunker, anyway. The antique tables and chairs are tastefully accompanied by such details as ancient grandfather clocks and bookshelves with enviable collections of communist-era Polish books.

Granted, most people will not go out of their way just to visit this quaint cafe, no matter how delicious their coffee is (and it is) or how tempting the ice cream (in 8 flavours), but if you happen to find yourself in this part of Poland for whatever reason, or live nearby and are looking for a good place to see a concert, where there's something going on every month, be sure to check out Baszta.
