Fitzroy Tavern
About Fitzroy Tavern
Situated on the ever-popular Charlotte Street, The Fitzroy Tavern is a classic example of a good pub: good beer (it actually is) and a good atmosphere. Livened by the constant buzz of conversation, the chinking of glasses, and guffaws of laughter that increase as the night develops, you may wonder why you went to that pretentious bar the previous night that required a bank loan to get a bowl of olives.
(In summer) you'll have to squeeze through the throngs of people who have spread from inside across the pavements, then within there is a single room with furniture circling the central bar. Efficient bar staff serve three thirsty customers at a time. Downstairs is a dark pit of additional bar space, which is quieter but also more oppressive.
Food is also reasonable with the usual bog-standard pub grub, however, the menu has been updated recently and no longer on offer is the nachos for twelve, which was always a crowd pleaser.
So go and discover Samuel Smith, with over 30 branches to the empire across central London you’re never far from one.
