While recently on my merry way up from Podgórze towards the centre of town, I passed by the former Ukrainian consulate on Krakowska and noticed something quite unusual. Through the window of its basement there was a massive disco ball and I wondered, in a moment of veneration, if perhaps the Ukrainian officials had given up diplomacy for parties. Unfortunately, a less imaginative truth was revealed to me, being that the consulate had moved away and that this new home for disco ball lovers is Masada - Kazimierz’s newest, shiniest, and possibly largest club. If the cramped, dark cellars of most clubs in Krakow leave you feeling claustrophobic, Masada may be the answer to your prayers. A colossal bright white open space with high ceilings and a second floor balcony overlooking the dance floor, the club also has a separate non-smoking section. Still in its first steps, Masada hosts a large variety of live music concerts and dance parties, playing anything from hip-hop to house to 80s hits depending on the night. The fact that the majority of the crowd visiting Kazimierz spend their nights on the opposite side of the district may end up being the biggest challenge for the owners of Masada to overcome. However, with a few other clubs popping up on this side of Krakowska such as Face2Face, hopefully the clubbers will overcome their fear of crossing a street and check out what’s new and interesting a few steps further.
