For Krakow residents, there may be several shocking, and possibly uncomfortable truths about Lizard King: a spacious and professional stage, cafe-style seating, a great deal of space, and a distinct lack of sweaty urine stench. To be able to sit comfortably to watch a rock band in Krakow is decidedly grown up, suitably metropolitan, and surprisingly confusing. But I guess this means that Krakow is growing up, and no longer finds a perverse pleasure in squeezing non-EMI bands onto minuscule so-called stages. It may be a form of entertainment for those sadistic jazz-loving bohemians, but it certainly creates an unwelcome atmosphere for rock bands interested in paying Krakow a visit. So in swoops Lizard King, potentially saving us all by welcoming Polish and international bands every weekend. The rest of the time it seems this newest addition to the Polish chain is aiming for an older, more civilized crowd that just wants its regular dose of Rolling Stones and Santana.
