This one deserves a doff of the cap for sheer abstraction alone. The Schloss may be rather more than a strudel's throw from Central Vienna, but it's a must for all wayfarers with a weak spot for the weird. Located bang opposite the gateway to Vienna's largest necropolis, Zentralfriedhof, it's a wistful place to while away an hour after wandering around the cemetery. The chef may not be aiming at Michelin stars, but with a 6 Euro lunch menu, it seems churlish to complain. The ideal spot to come and pencil down a poem after paying tribute to Strauss and co next door.
