About Roxy

Why is it that just about every European capital has a club called "Roxy?" And how come about 99% of the time, that club is the epitome of a shallow, unoriginal cheesy pop/techno waste of clubbing space? I don't know if it's just the coolness of Prague in general, but fortunately, THIS Roxy falls into the 1% that isn't completely useless.

For example, on Mondays they actually use their giant, well-lit and amplified stage for live music and not just DJs like most clubs. Last time I went, the band played some deranged hybrid of metal and punk; while the music itself wasn't my thing, seeing a free live concert (followed by decent DJs) on a Monday was quite nice. In fact, live concerts here are a regular thing, as Roxy is one of the few proper medium-sized live music venues in the city. But of course, as any good nightclub, they do have regular DJ events, though they tend to grab some of the better names from the European/UK scene. Plus their mixed program makes for a mixed crowd that's often more interesting than just the regular clubgoers.
