About Palace Akropolis

It seems that more and more indie bands are hitting up Prague as part of their European tours, and chances are they'll be playing Palace Akropolis - at least the better-known ones.

Any true live music fan knows that acoustics and atmosphere matter most in a venue. What Akropolis lacks in the former, it more than makes up for with the latter. Not to say the sound is terrible; actually, the stage is designed quite intelligently, and the sound is more than decent from most angles - but it's no philharmonic hall. But then, the music styles represented here tend to be more guitar-driven than string-driven, so the setting is appropriate.

A refreshing site at concerts in Prague in general, but at Akropolis especially, is the mix of people that show up - hipsters, indie kids, punks, skaters, yuppies... one thing they have in common is that they're there for the music (or occasionally to chat up members of the opposite sex, but that can't be avoided). This mix creates a unique atmosphere, making for a memorable concert experience, even if the band happens to suck.
