To be honest with you, you will probably never find this restaurant but if you are brave, your car has 4 weel drive and you happen to find yourself in Durres, we suggest you hop in, buckle up and head for perhaps the best fish restaurant in Albania. Before I tell you how to get there, let me tell you what is waiting for you... fresh fish. Plain and simple. There are no frills with this place, in fact there is no menu and we aren't even sure it has a name. There are a few plastic tables and chairs scattered haphazardly on a concrete terrace and across a dingy lawn. The waitress is most likely the owner and she doesn't speak a word of English but through a series of hand signals grunts and Italian my party of 3 managed to each order a fresh fish sampler and a beer. What arrived was truly sublime and probably the tastiest fish I've ever eaten in my life. I still don't know the names of the fish and there was no presentation to speak of. Just lightly battered and fried fresh fish bliss with lemon wedges... So how does one find this catch? I'll work backwards. The restaurant is nestled at the end of a private beach that is in the middle of what looks like an industrial waste dump. This dump is directly north of Durres and just past the old industrial Port. Since there is only one road north out of town you can't miss it. If a guide book was writing about this place they would describe it as a diamond in the rough... For once I would have to agree with them. Happy hunting.
