Wagamama has turned into a chain of noodle restaurants, but it all started here, just a stroll away from the British Museum, in 1992. I first went soon after it opened, and there were queues of diners waiting (literally) for over an hour to be served in the basement restaurant, then hurried out as fast as possible to get the next diners in! Having visited again this year, the queues have mercifully gone, but the food is still as good - incredible Asian fusion food, freshly cooked and served at high speed. Orders are taken at long benches you sit at, and transmitted wirelessly and immediately to the kitchen - so the chefs start working literally as you place your order. Go for one of their noodle dishes, washed down with an Asahi beer - perfection!

yeah, everyone went noodle mad for a while. I remember queuing for ages to get in not so many years ago, and then the minute you slurp your last noodle they (politely) whisk you off. great food though!
