Named after the Singer-brand sewing machines that double as tables (very cool, but highly impractical) this bar has firmly embedded itself into the canon of Krakow folklore. With a little help from Alchemia, on the other side of the Square, Singer was responsible for revitalising the down-and-out Jewish district and turning it into the hippest area in town (think Krakow's very own Shoreditch). As the rest of Kazimierz has become gentrified, Singer has managed to retain its authentic artsy vibe and still attracts a colourful mix of culture cats into its oppressively dark interior to discuss the latest trends in Swedish avant-garde theatre et al. In bright contrast, a scattering of seats on the pavement catch the sunlight until late in the evening and make a perfect place for observing the peripatetic crowds passing through Plac Nowy.

I think Singer is also the Polish seat of the Billie Holiday appreciation society.
