About Baltic Hostel

Baltic Hostel in Gdansk is notoriously hard to find. If you waste less than half an hour looking for it you deserve an orienteering boy/ girl scout badge. It's near the train and bus stations, which is a plus if you're taking the bus or train. It's about a ten minute walk to the center.

Personally I do not recommend this place. We booked a two-person room through the internet (even payed a fee and a deposit for the booking) and when we got there they had no idea we were coming... If they had been full, we'd have been sleeping on the street. They gave us a couple of beds in an 8-person dorm for 40zl each, but that's a bit different than a private double bed room for 60zl each. Inexcusable I say. And they gave us some crap that it was "the machines fault". The "machine"? huh???

Anyhow, all bitching about recent personal experiences aside, I should give some facts about the place:

The Baltic offers free breakfasts and free internet access. The beds and the rooms were clean. The showers offered not even a semblance of privacy (two stalls with disgusting shower curtains for the whole place just across the hall from the common room/ reception area), and don't even get me started about the ONE toilet they had! Have you ever shat in a closet? Have you ever had to sit sideways on a toilet because you were taller than 150cm? The place has no locks or security to speak of. Anyone familiar with the place could walk in off the street and stab/ rob me.

Big thumbs down!
