About Del Papa

Del Papa has garnered plenty of attention over the seemingly short time it has been open in Krakow, having even made it into the 2008 Michelin restaurant guide. I was determined to give this Italian eatery a try before the inevitable tourist takeover (see Miod Malina). Del Papa’s patio, where I spent my recent lunch hour, is spotless and elegant while retaining that usual Italian-inspired look with dusty wine bottles and twisting vines. A well-written menu is already half the battle won, and Del Papa’s rose to the challenge with plenty of scrumptious-sounding pastas and seasonal dishes. Complimentary munchies came in the form of fresh bread sticks (still warm!) sprinkled with sesame seeds and sea salt - the perfect match to my Peroni. While the portion of the spaghetti carbonara I ordered was a tad meagre, the execution was flawless. The pasta was homemade with a light creamy sauce, slices of cured ham, and shavings of Parmesan - a delicate approach to a dish that is usually way too heavy. Lunch for two came down to 50 zloty on the dot. Great value, delicious food, efficient service and classy decor are exactly what this foodie was looking for. Hurrah!
