If you’re looking for a cheap lunch outside the madness of the Old Town, you could do a lot worse than poking your nose into Vegetarian Bar “Vega” on Krupnicza Street. Their elegant dining hall has a decidedly relaxing air to it, as lonely students come to munch on cheap plates of salad around huge tables, and stare into the middle distance. Although some of the salad choices look distinctly unappetising languishing in half empty bowls, Vega has a fantastic range of soups with the pumpkin and, more recently, the lentil numbers pleasantly tickling the taste buds. Refreshingly for Poland, neither had anything more sinister than the odd piece of bread floating in them. Also on sale are vegetarian takes on goulash, lasagna, dumplings and pancakes, although meat eaters might find them lacking a little oomph. A word of warning to the aurally sensitive amongst you - the music selection can be truly atrocious. A pan pipe moods version of “Take My Breath Away” had me sprinting for a seat outside. Find a second branch on ulica Św. Gertrudy.
