It's up against some pretty stiff competition but when push comes to shove Nowa Prowincja probably edges it as my favourite cafe in Krakow. For a start two distinct spaces on the ground floor, a mezzanine level and a 'secret room' upstairs, mean that there are plenty of interesting nooks and crannies to plump your posterior: and if the weather's nice there's even a long bench out on the street for ogling at cute passerbys and taking in some solar rays. But here's the clincher - the szarlotka, or apple pie. There's none finer in Krakow, and served up hot with some icecream this is confectionery heaven. Negative points are that it can get a bit too rowdy if tourists are here en masse, whilst the self-service can be a bit tedious if everyone steps up for a fresh pot of tea at the same time.
