Hotel Saski
- Once upon a time, many moons ago, three wayfaring musketeers arrived in Krakow, exhausted and not a little bit smelly after an all-night train journey from Prague (which we foolhardily made in non-sleeper carriage). After traipsing around most of the city, under the (mis)guidance of the revered Lonely Planet, we found not a single hostel bed in the city. On a desperate whim, one of them - I believe it was me - suggested we may as well inquire at the Hotel Saski, even though one look at the grand exterior told us we could never afford it. But lo and behold, there is was, a triple room without bathroom for a mere 33 quid (those were the days!). And so it was that this tawdry triumvirate of hard-up travellers stayed in three-star luxury, with satellite TV, and full English breakfast and laughed heartily at any other backpackers we saw on the street. A love affair with Krakow was born...
