It can be surprisingly hard to find a decent bar in the centre of London, especially one that stays open past the average nine year old's bedtime and doesn't charge just for the privilege of coming inside. Thank God for The Social then, which offers a pleasant antidote to Late Night London rubbish and dingy 19th century boozers, without unduly taxing your wallet. Say hello to the friendly bouncer (a rara avis indeed!) and descend into a rabbit warren of cramped spaces to sip on a wide range of beers (from Red Stripe to Tsing Tao) and listen to superb music, courtesy of up-and-coming DJs and live acts (The Social was set up by Heavenly Records). Next time you’re stuck for ideas in the West End you’ll be glad to remember this little gem.

he has - and amazingly the bouncer still remembered me! Disappointingly however there was an R'n'B karaoke night about to start. Not what I was expecting and we left pretty sharpish.
